  • L333 KING TIGER PLECO (SIZE 3CM) - Nano Tanks Australia Aquarium Shop

L333 KING TIGER PLECO (SIZE 3CM)

    Out of stock

The L333  King Tiger Pleco (Hypancistrus sp.) is a member of the Loricariidae family of South American suckermouth catfishes.  Its entire body is covered in black and white or yellow “maze-like” stripes, making it a very striking fish for the planted or nano aquarium.  Like many plecos, the King Tiger Pleco has generally been a wild-caught species, but we are proud to be among the first stores to offer tank-raised juveniles at a much lower cost than wild-caught specimens! A generally peaceful and hardy species, the King Tiger Pleco is an excellent, undemanding candidate for most aquariums. Unlike the widely-seen Common Pleco (Hypostomus plecostomus) and Trinidad Pleco (Hypostomus punctatus), which easily reach a monstrous size of 18 to 20+ inches (45 to 51+ cm), the King Tiger Pleco grows to a size of only 5.5 to 6.3 inches (13.75 to 15.75 cm).   This smaller size makes for a much more manageable (and less messy) pleco that can thrive permanently in a well-maintained aquarium as small as 40 gallons.  Male plecos may be somewhat territorial with other males of their species, but disputes can usually be diffused by providing ample territory and hiding places for each fish.  All other fish tankmates will be generally ignored, although it is likely that dwarf shrimp will fall prey to the King Tiger Pleco.  However, ornamental snails will not be bothered and large Amano, Green Lace, Flower, and Vampire Shrimp are generally unthreatened by the King Tiger Pleco.  Please note that this fish requires a significantly warmer temperature than many other fish and invertebrates.  Some shrimp will not thrive in these high temperatures. The King Tiger Pleco is primarily nocturnal, but will often become active during daytime hours once established in an aquarium with plenty of driftwood, rockwork, and other hiding places.  It is not known to eat wood heavily like some plecos (Panaque sp., etc.), but it may benefit from some supplementary wood (or bio-film on driftwood). The King Tiger Pleco will not bother most plants and it is not an effective algae eater Feed the King Tiger Pleco a diet heavy in both meaty and vegetable matter, including high-quality vegetable flakes, sinking algae wafers, and pellets.  It will also appreciate being fed some fresh vegetables such as shelled peas, spinach, zucchini, and cucumber.  Meaty foods such as bloodworms are definitely necessary for this species, especially in comparison to some other “pleco” species.  This species requires a well-maintained aquarium with moderate to high water flow in order to thrive. What We Like About This Fish: The King Tiger Pleco is an extremely beautiful and very peaceful, hardy addition to almost any aquarium. At a maximum size of 5.1 to 6 inches, this is a very practical and manageable fish. This fish will not bother most plants.  It will also scavenge and consume most uneaten fish food. The King Tiger Pleco is an aquarium fish with a unique appearance as well as plenty of personality. RECOMMENDED TANK PARAMETERS:  Temperature:  79° - 86° F (26° - 30° C) pH:  5.5 - 7.5 (flexible as long as sudden changes are avoided) KH:  6 - 10 dKH Minimum tank size:  40 gallons

    L397 Alenquer Tiger Pleco 4-5cm

    Out of stock

The L397 Alenquer Tiger Pleco is a remarkably rare and colourful species that is now available as a tank-bred specimen and is a very manageable species for the home aquarium! The L397 Alenquer Tiger Pleco (Panaqolus sp.) is an exceptionally colourful and rare loricariid (suckermouth catfish) species that has been successfully tank-bred commercially in just the last few years. Its bright orange and black striping are very distinguishable and among the most striking colourations of the hundreds of known plecos. Like many plecos, the L397 Alenquer Tiger Pleco has generally been a wild-caught species, but we are proud to offer tank-raised juveniles of this beautiful fish at a fraction of the price of other stores! A generally peaceful and hardy species, the L397 Alenquer Tiger Pleco is an excellent, undemanding candidate for most aquariums. Unlike the widely-seen Common Pleco (Hypostomus plecostomus) and Trinidad Pleco (Hypostomus punctatus), which easily reach a monstrous size of 18 to 20+ inches (45 to 51+ cm), the L397 Alenquer Tiger Pleco grows to a maximum size of only around 5 inches (12.7 cm). This smaller size makes for a much more manageable (and less messy) pleco that can thrive permanently in a well-maintained aquarium as small as 30 to 40 gallons. Male plecos may be somewhat territorial with other males of their species, but disputes can usually be diffused by providing ample territory and hiding places for each fish. All other tank mates will be generally ignored, although it is possible that small shrimp fry might fall prey to the omnivorous L397 Alenquer Tiger Pleco. The L397 Alenquer Tiger Pleco is primarily nocturnal, but will often become active during daytime hours once established in an aquarium with plenty of driftwood, rocks, and other hiding places. Like its larger cousins of the Panaque genus, the L397 Alenquer Tiger Pleco is a "wood eating" pleco whose sucker mouth contains teeth that rasp biofilm from driftwood. It is ideal to have multiple driftwood pieces upon which this fish can graze, and at least some wood must be present at all times. The L397 Alenquer Tiger is not a particularly efficient algae eater, but its rasping habits may result in damage to ornamental plants, particularly in smaller tanks. It is possible that it would not do noticeable damage to more durable plants in a fairly large tank with plenty of driftwood. It will also appreciate being fed some fresh vegetables such as shelled peas, spinach, zucchini, and cucumber, or dry and frozen foods that are very rich in vegetable matter. What We Like About This Fish: An extremely beautiful, very peaceful, and hardy addition to almost any aquarium. At a maximum size of 5 inches, this is a very practical and manageable fish. Superb tank-bred juvenile specimens The L397 Alenquer Tiger Pleco is an aquarium fish with a unique appearance as well as plenty of personality. RECOMMENDED TANK PARAMETERS: Temperature: 79° - 84° F (26° - 29° C) pH: 6.5 - 7.5 (flexible as long as sudden changes are avoided) KH: 6 - 10 dKH Minimum tank size: 30 gallons CARE GUIDELINES: Diet: Omnivorous, see above. Social behaviour: Generally solitary, but will socialise somewhat, especially during breeding. Origin: Tank-bred, but indigenous to Lower Amazon, South America. Identification A detailed account can be found in the Catfish of the Month article (link below). The species is sometimes confused with L448 (LDA068), which is very similar, but grows larger. The main key for distinguishing them is that juvenile L448 have stripes/squiggles/scribes on the head, which only appear in mature Panaque maccus. The mature size of L448 can be over 100mm, something not seen in P. maccus. Sexing Like all members of the genus, males grow elongated interopercular odontodes during the breeding season. Males develop noticeable odontodes along the dorsum (back of the body) as well. Males develop small pointed genital papillae, whereas mature females will have large, rounded, swollen papillae. Additionally, gravid females have noticeably wider bodies between the pectoral and pelvic fins when viewed from above, compared to males. • Peckoltia lineola L202 (SIZE: 3CM) - Nano Tanks Australia Aquarium Shop

    Peckoltia lineola L202 (SIZE: 3CM)

    Out of stock

A relatively uncommon Peckoltia species exported from Colombia is L202. It has a fairly typical Peckoltia look with black band and blotches over a pale yellow base colour. It doesn't really “stand out from the crowd”, which may explain why it's not more of a regular encounter in the hobby. As an aquarium fish it's a great choice even for beginners, as it's a hardy omnivore without any extraordinary demands. Facts: Name: Peckoltia lineola (Armbruster, 2008) Trade names: L202, LDA57, LDA79 Origin: Rio Guaviare, Rio Inirida, Colombia. Rio Ventuari, Venezuela. Maximum TL: 14 cm / 6'' Peckoltia lineola is an omnivore, so a varied diet is required. After a period of maintenance and conditioning the fish are easy to breed. Clean, warm water with good movement and a tank furnished with decent caves and other hiding places makes the fish feel relaxed, and the males will show off some impressive odontodal growth on their flanks. 10-50 eggs are laid in tight caves where the male guards them. Peckoltia lineola is quite variable in the pattern, which is why it occurs under several L- and LDA-numbers. It's easy to confuse with Ancistomus L243, another Orinoco-based Pleco. L243 has a longer, more slender body and a larger adult size. CREDITS TO: https://www.loricariidae.info/peckoltia-lineola-l202

    Royal Whiptails

The Royal Farlowella (Sturisoma panamense), also known as the Twig or Whiptail Catfish, is a member of the Loricariidae family of South American suckermouth catfishes. While many suckermouth catfish species have yet to be bred on any major scale in aquariums, the Royal Farlowella has been bred by a few farms. This fish is highly unique with its very thin, twig-like appearance and the “streamer” extensions on its tail. The Royal Farlowella is primarily nocturnal, but will often become active during daytime hours once established in an aquarium with plenty of driftwood, rock work, and other hiding places. It is not known to eat wood heavily like some suckermouth catfish (Panaque sp., etc.), but it may benefit from some supplementary wood (or rather the biofilm on driftwood) in its diet. The Royal Farlowella will not bother most plants, but it will eat plenty of algae in the aquarium, especially as a juvenile. Feed the Royal Farlowella a diet heavy in vegetable matter, including high-quality vegetable flakes, sinking algae wafers and pellets. It will also appreciate being fed some fresh vegetables such as shelled peas, spinach, zucchini and cucumber. Occasional meaty foods such as bloodworms are also beneficial when fed very sparingly. This fish eats constantly, so too much meat/animal protein in its diet can be unhealthy for the fish as well as the level of waste it produces in the aquarium. The Royal Farlowella is very peaceful and is compatible with most other non-aggressive fish and invertebrates. It is possible that larger specimens might eat very small dwarf shrimp, particularly their fry. However, many aquarists keep the Royal Farlowella with their shrimp colonies with no problems. The Royal Farlowella can reach a length of 8 inches, but it is a very thin fish that does not account for the bioload that many thicker fish of a similar length produce. What We Like About This Fish:The Royal Farlowella is a very peaceful and hardy addition to almost any aquarium. At a maximum size of 8 inches (20.3 cm), this is a very practical and manageable fish. This fish will not bother most plants, but it will likely help with algae control, especially as a juvenile. It will also scavenge and consume most uneaten fish food.Unique appearance as well as plenty of personality.RECOMMENDED TANK PARAMETERS:Temperature: 72° - 86° F (22° - 30° C)pH: 6.5 - 7.5KH: 6 - 10 dKHMinimum tank size: 30 gallonsImage by: http://www.tropical-fish-keeping.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/catfish-royalwhiptailcatfish.jpgReference: Aquatic Arts

The Super Red Bristlenose is part of the Ancistrus genus of nocturnal freshwater fish native to freshwater habitats in South America. The Bristlenose is a great tank cleaner. This is one of the main reasons this fish is so common in home aquariums. They are great algae eaters and will help keep algae levels to a minimum. They are very peaceful and generally mind their own business and are therefore suitable to live with most kinds of fish but consideration should be taken into suitable water parameters of tank mates. The Super Reds enjoy vegetable bases food like algae and it is recommended that their diet is supplemented with Algae wafers.
