  • Sale -9% Red Cherry Shrimp - Nano Tanks Australia Aquarium Shop

[ALWAYS IN STOCK] Red Cherry Shrimp 1-3cm [NO SHIPPING TO WA OR TAS]

Cherry Shrimp Types & Price Cherry Shrimps RCS Neocaridina davidi is one of the most beautiful and sought after shrimp in the hobby today. They are easy to care for and easy to breed in a freshwater aquarium. These freshwater shrimps also are priced for the beginners market. Red Cherry Shrimp When you get our shrimps they are mostly a B or C class shrimp. This means that they will appear red, however their quality is not as consistent as the highest grade. We do have Bloody Mary and Fire Red Shrimps that come from time to time however these strains are hard to get and there are cost implication that come with them. If you are interested in these premium kinds of shrimps please message us. Blue Cherry Shrimp & Yellow Cherry Shrimp These colour variations are not as popular as red cherry's however they look amazing in their own way. Our particular variant of Blue Cherry Shrimp is called Blue Dreams.  Our Yellow Cherry Shrimps can look quite stunning against particular backgrounds. Living Conditions Dwarf Shrimps are adaptable to a wide variety of tank conditions and water parameters. They can withstand temperatures to around 15°C through to 30°C. However they do prefer to be around 22°C to 26°C. The shrimps are also tolerable in a wide array of pH. However they do better when the pH is around 6.5. RCS (Red Cherry Shrimp) is very tolerable to TDS levels however, we recommend you keep your TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) to around 200ppm max. The History of Shrimp in Australia Red Cherry's appeared in Australia in the early 2000s. The price at this time was quite high and the shrimps unfortunately were not very nicely coloured. The price of the shrimps, fortunately, tumbled quickly as people discovered that they were very easy to care for and breed readily. In 2014 they reached around 50 cents (!!) AUD and people started giving up on these shrimps just because they were easy to breed. When we opened in early 2014 we were fortunate to be the first shop to sell these shrimps in bulk and we were proud to be selling them as low as $1 per shrimp (at that time). However, as we fast forward to the present and beyond, the price of these shrimps has increased steadily due to the necessary upkeep requirements for ensuring healthy shrimps for sale. Now, these shrimps are more than a staple in the Aquarium hobby and a great addition to add for those starting out in shrimp keeping and Aquascaping in general. What fish live with red cherry shrimp? There are a lot of fish that live with red cherry shrimp. You should consider keeping it with anything that won’t target the shrimp. The Red Cherry Shrimps make an irresistible target to predation. To keep it safe and as a rule of thumb, don’t keep shrimps with Barbs, Bettas or anything that can predate it. Even if the fish do not eat the shrimp, having planted aquariums allow for a safe place so your cherries are happy. How long do red cherry shrimp live for? Cherry Shrimps live for around 1-2 years. However, remember that when they are born they are born live and you can observe little shrimps in the tank. Most stores will sell shrimps at around 3-6 months. At this stage it is the best and ideal time for them to go to their new homes. Do Cherry shrimps breed easily? Cherry Shrimps breed very easily and to make sure they do breed, I recommend that you put them in with Bristlenose algae eater. The combination of having a Bristlenose and Cherry Shrimps means that they will consistently breed. Only use a sponge filter and do not keep with other fish if you wish for success. If the tank is new and does not contain sufficient algae, algae wafers are fine to use as this is what baby shrimps eat. Females who are carrying the eggs will have a cluster of between 30 and 50 eggs at a time beneath their tails. Properly bred, 10 shrimps can turn into 1000 in 6 months! Do cherry shrimp need a filter? Cherry shrimps do need a filter to live. However, don’t go overboard on the filtration. A simple sponge filter or internal filter will be more than sufficient for it. Do cherry shrimp eat fish poop? Cherry Shrimps don’t generally eat fish poop, however they will eat Bristlenose poo readily. I believe it is due to the wood that Bristlenose Eat that the Red Cherry Shrimps like as well. I do recommend that you also do feed your Cherry Shrimps to make sure that they are always in great form. Do cherry shrimp jump out of tank? Cherry Shrimps do not necessarily jump out of a tank. However if you give them a way.. like a filter wool climbing area or anything rough they will wonder around. When this happens please make sure that you keep your lids secure. How do you know if cherry shrimp are happy? You know that your cherry shrimps are happy because they will swim around readily and scavenge food in your tank. However, once they become still or unresponsive you will have problems. One of the worst you can ever do with shrimps is when you spray an aerosol in the house. Such as a fly spray or anything that will kill bugs. If and when you do this death will be swift! Why do shrimp drop eggs? Sometimes when RCS molt they might drop their eggs. This means that the eggs were not viable or there is a problem with the water conditions. When this happen we recommend you ignore it at first. However, if this occurs frequently we recommend that you get your water tested to make sure that everything is ok. Are red cherry shrimp Hardy? Red Cherry Shrimps are hardy. They can be totally ignored and you don’t need to really worry about them. The old adage with shrimps is that the more you care for them the worst they can get. What plants do cherry shrimp like? Shrimps loves mosses or anything that they can hide and cover themselves in. If you are looking for things like Susswassertang or Java Moss these are the simplest and the best options. Can cherry shrimp live with bettas? Before we answer the question can Cherry Shrimps live with Bettas, we need to clarify the question further and make it more specific. One betta cannot live with one Cherry Shrimp. One will be food and one will be full. However, if you have 1 betta with say 12 shrimps and heaps of cover in the tank they they can live together with no issues. The reason for this is because it is hard for the betta to focus on the one shrimp. Can you eat red cherry shrimp? You can but why would you? A cherry shrimp is such a small size and you will need a lot of it to really make a meal out of them. If you intend to breed for your human consumption, I would strongly advise against it. We do not send shrimps to WA, TAS or NT

THIS INCLUDES FREE POST SHIPPING. What is a Marimo moss ball Marimo is a type of moss ball that mainly grows in the northern hemisphere. Marimo is its Japanese name; it’s also is known as a Cladophora ball. Like most underwater plants, it photosynthesises, it takes in carbon dioxide and releases oxygen as well as consuming nitrates. The moss balls are nearly indestructible – no amount of nudging from your curious fishes will bring these down! Despite their name, they are in fact not related to moss at all; they are more closely related to algae. The name “Marimo” was coined by the Japanese botanist Takiya Kawakami, a combination of “Mari”, meaning bouncy play ball, and “Mo”, a general term for water plants. The benefits of a marimo ball The Marimo moss ball brings with it a variety of benefits to your aquarium: 1. Aesthetics: First of all, the marimo moss balls look great! Looking right at home with other plants in a home aquarium, and provide a very clean yet natural feel to their environment. Even on their own, moss balls are a nice addition to any themed tank. Our beta fish have always approved the introduction of a moss ball to their home! 2. Reducing Nitrates: Nitrates are produced by fish during the course of their life. The level is usually harmless to them, but this is why it is important to do regular water changes. However, having a Marimo moss ball in the tank can help reduce the number of nitrates at all times. They feed on these nitrates to survive and grow. 3. Phosphates and particulates: The Moss balls not only provide an active defence against nitrate levels but also a passive one. Their spongy texture allows them to act as a filter, removing phosphates and particulates from the tank, which algae would use to feed and grow on things such as aquarium plants, cutting off sunlight or even on the glass walls themselves. 4. Oxygen: Just like humans fish breath oxygen – fish take their oxygen from the water using their gills (A side fact – Did you know betta fish are one of very few fish that can even take oxygen from above the water’s surface – but that’s another blog post). As fish breathe they take (and use up) the oxygen in the water and replace it with carbon dioxide. Well guess what? That’s right marimo moss balls take in this waste carbon dioxide and replace it with oxygen. Your fish will be pleased! 5. They are cheap! 6. Easy! Marimo moss balls are so easy to look after. Once you add them to your tank they require no attention! Marimo Moss Ball Care Taking care of your marimo moss ball is easy! In most cases you add them to your tank and they will then become part of your aquarium’s aesthetics. Providing both style and helping keep your tank water clean. However, if you wish for the healthiest marimo moss ball here are a few tips for you… Light Marimo balls require low to medium levels of indirect light – too much sunlight can cause them to brown. If this begins to happen with your moss ball, the best solution is to simply move the ball into an area of the tank with lower light levels. Water Changes Take the time during water changes to agitate the moss ball slightly or simply place it on another side. This is to make sure it gets an even amount of light all around and also to retain its round shape. Floating Floating is a regular sight for moss balls. Usually, it indicates a trapped air bubble inside, this can be fixed by gently squeezing the ball. Usually floating happens when you first add a marimo moss ball to the tank. It will usually sink within a few days of being added to a tank. Don’t worry if your moss ball floats when you first add it to the tank, why not leave it there for your betta fish to investigate? How to know if your moss ball is deadA dead moss ball can be identified as it will be mostly or completely brown, which indicates it is either completely or mostly unrecoverable. At this point, the moss ball can simply be removed as regular garden/organic waste. There is no way to rejuvenate them at this stage How do I get my moss ball? When we ship our moss balls they will come in a heat sealed zip lock bag that was only packed on the day of shipping. We usually ship them with some water in the bag so they can be buoyant. They should appear GREEN and FLAT due to transport (As they normally get flatten due to shipping). There will also be a slight odour – like when rain falls on dry land. We encourage you to give them a rinse under water to clear out any excess cloudiness and also roll them with your hand (like you do with a snot ball) IF your moss ball arrives BROWN or LOOKS DECAYED It means that it has died (which rarely happens but can happen – thus the reason why we send them via Express/ Sendle/ AusPost Snail Mail) If this happens please send photos and videos using the Facebook Messenger icon and we will send you a fresh one. Do you sell kits? Yes, we will be selling kits. Please send us an enquiry so we can understand your requirements. We have noticed that a few of competitors are using Shells or Sand that is not suitable for your marimo moss. We urge you to be aware of these as Marimo Moss naturally occurs in acidic regions and the kits that is supplied will not be great for the mosses’ well being. Reference and image from: https://japanesefightingfish.org/marimo-moss-balls/ How do you send this item?      Described By:  (Boulenger), 1915   😊 Description Temperament Peaceful Predator Colour Form Varied Bright Colours.  Males - Coloured Tails ♂️ Females - Plain Tails ♀️ Lifespan Roughly 5 years Diet 🥩 Carnivores - feeds on pellets, live foods and frozen foods. Minimum Tank Size 20 Litres Tank Setup Plants - Such as Duckweed, Anubias or Java Fern with many rocks and woods. Such as Dragon Stone, Dragon Wood, Quan Woods. Compatibility Peaceful - However due to the size please be aware that it can be eaten by bigger fish.   To keep your Clown Killifish happy, their habitat should be well lit, water parameters excellent, and a gentle current from the filter set. If you give your clown Killies these conditions, they can live for 5 years! Rocket Killie Clown Killies are also known as rocket killies and banded panchax. Coming from western Africa, they are found in southern Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. The Clown Killifish is a peaceful micro-predator that feeds primarily on tiny flying insects and invertebrates. 😊 Can we expect some clowning around? Clown Killifish are shy (they are rather small) but they will become more playful when in a group, so expect some interesting schooling behaviour. They even enjoy jumping out of the water for some fun! Make sure to keep their tank lid tightly fitted so that these fish can have as much space as possible to live and play around without the risk of an excursion on the floor. 😊 A unique look Clown Killifish are also called Rocket Killies because they resemble tiny rockets. In addition, they have torpedo-shaped bodies that help them swim up for food, and they even appear as a fishy clown with round heads and spade-like tails. 😊 Keeping Clown Killifish in the Aquarium You can choose to house Clown Killies in larger community tanks that are already occupied by other species. The downside is the fish won't reproduce as often if they're placed with another type of inhabitant, so you should know what kind of goal you have for keeping these types of fishes before giving them a home. 😊 Are these fish easy to breed? If you have a male and female in your tank, don't worry about mating. Just maintain healthy water parameters to keep them alive, and they will breed when it's the right time every month! Clown Killies are prolific parents who can produce up to 25 fry per cycle - twice each month until their population numbers get out of hand! 😊 Feeding your Clown Killies Clown Killies are carnivores that need a lot of meaty protein, but they can only eat tiny portions. They lay in wait for the insects to land on the water's surface and then eat their prey - or what could be considered for them a tasty meat morsel! Ideally, in captivity, we can try mimicking what can be in the natural environment: baby brine shrimp 1-2 times a day should do it! There is advice on other foods on the internet but realistically, sticking with brine shrimp for a treat is good enough and achievable without spending a fortune.   PLEASE CONTACT US FIRST BEFORE YOU ORDER ANY FEMALES AS WE WILL HAVE TO CHECK OUR STOCK!

Hygrophila Difformis Water Wisteria Loose or Pots

It can be kept as a mid-ground or background plant in tanks of a minimum 10 gallons. The water should be soft to moderately hard and pH should be 6.5-7.5, but it has been noticed this plant will thrive in any conditions, though fertilizers should still be added. The water wisteria does best in water temperatures of 75-82 degrees Fahrenheit. Planting your Water WisteriaThe best substrate for this plant is a specialty plant substrate very rich in nutrients. It can still grow in small grain gravel or sand substrate, as long as you keep fertilizing it with fertilizing tabs, but be careful to anchor the wisteria if you plant it in sand until the roots are well established in the substrate to avoid accidental uprooting. The water wisteria makes a good mid- to background aquarium plant, but can also be grown as a carpet. For this, you have to plant it on its side and make sure the roots are developed along the stem This way, leaves will only grow on one side and extend along the substrate to create a carpet effect. For a more striking effect, plant it between rocks or pieces of wood or next to other contrasting plants. Care for your Water WisteriaThe water wisteria is very easy to care for, as it thrives in many conditions even without CO2 supplementation. For the best look and sturdy leaves, make sure you provide a nutrient rich substrate or at least constant fertilizing with tabs. Fertilizing is very important, as the plant needs nitrate, phosphate, and, most importantly, iron to have a healthy development. Iron deficiency can easily be noticed if the leaves turn pale and yellowish. Remove any dead or brown sections to prevent infections from spreading throughout the plant; this also allows it to use its energy and nutrients only for the healthy leaves and stems. Occasional trimming may be needed to make sure light and nutrients reach all the stems and roots. You can always replant the stems you trimmed if you want lush vegetation. It will grow well under moderate light, but strong light will help accelerate the wisteria’s growth rate and maintain the most intense colors. ReproductionPropagation is conducted through stem or leaf cutting near the base of the mother plant. Plant cuttings will soon grow their own roots and develop into a new plant; if you keep cutting and replanting, newly developed shoots from each plant will form a bushy effect and you can even leave the plant to propagate by its own shoots to allow it to cover a larger surface. We sell wisteria in terracotta pots for easy planting  Reference: https://www.theaquariumguide.com/articles/water-wisteria-guideImage: https://images.app.goo.gl/PeWXMJhdYdDJ5NgN7

  • Bumblebee Goby 1.5cm - Nano Tanks Australia Aquarium Shop

    [ARRIVED 24-MAR-2025] Bumblebee Goby 1-2cm

    81 in stock

Gobies for the Freshwater and Brackish Tank Gobies from the Brachygobius genus, better known as bumblebee gobies, are small bottom-dwelling aquarium fish species prominently featuring a bee-like yellow and black striped pattern. These unique creatures may not be the best choice for most community tanks due to their preference for brackish water conditions, making them difficult to maintain in more typical freshwater settings. For those willing to put in the work and take on a little risk, bumblebee gobies make for an exciting addition. They have been raised by aquarists before with great success! Aquarium enthusiasts will find this fish incredibly rewarding as they provide hours of entertainment while having unique behaviours not seen in other aquarium species. Name The common name "bumblebee gobies" or "bumblebee fish" often refers to one of Brachygobius sp. (B. xanthozona, B. doriae, B., nunus etc.). *Most bumblebee gobies in fish stores are listed as Brachygobius xanthozona; unfortunately this is almost always a case of mislabeling and the species rarely if ever available Natural Habitat In the humid and salty water of estuaries, rivers, and streams in Indonesia (Java), Thailand, Vietnam. These fish are able to find plenty of hiding places among mangrove roots or fallen branches that lie on top of a muddy substrate with organic residues. Wild bumblebee gobies can be found throughout Indonesia ( Java ), Sumatra, Borneo ) as well as parts of India. Here these little guys inhabit shallow habitats where they live amid brackish waters covered by mud or sand, which also has an abundance of plants for protection from predators such as larger fish who may want to eat them up! Identification These little fish are known for their yellow and black striped appearance, a short body shape that looks like a bumblebee. They're also smaller goby species with an average size of about 1-2 inches (3-4 cm). Bumblebee gobies may look small in stature, but they pack quite the punch! These cute little guys get their common name from looking just like a bumblebee - bright stripes and all! The Brachygobius genus is very difficult to distinguish between because they are all almost identical. Males can be differentiated from females by their more slender body shape and brighter colouration. Requirements Bumblebee gobies are not the best fish for a community aquarium as they will be quickly outcompeted by more assertive species and can even die of starvation. Bumblebees do their best when kept in brackish water at low salinity (a range between 1.002 and 1.006). These fish stay very small, so there is no need to set up a large aquarium. For decent-sized groups, at least 10 gallons (38 L), with plenty of floor space should be enough for them.  The tank should always be fully cycled before adding any new inhabitants, but water filtration can remain weak; these animals naturally live in calm waters and may not respond well if the current gets too strong! Tankmates Bumblebee Gobies are often difficult to find tank mates for because they live in brackish water habitats. This means that the range of possible companions is relatively small, so it's important to do your research before adding a new fish into an existing community. The Bumblebee Goby is a peaceful fish that can live in harmony with other species. They only show aggression to defend territory or mates, but even then fighting rarely results in injury! FOOD Bumblebee Gobies are carnivores and need to eat meat. They prefer brine shrimp, tubifex worms, or bloodworms for their diet but anything would do as long as it's a little more novel than what they're used to. You can opt for live, frozen food, or freeze-dried. Take note though: it will be much easier to get them eating the live food! You can make your bumblebee goby feel right at home with the following aquatic invertebrate foods: Daphnia, Tubifex, Brine shrimp, Copepods and Grindle worms. Breeding These fish are incredibly fascinating. They come in a variety of colours and patterns depending on the region they live in, but when it comes to breeding habits- these creatures make for an awesome spectacle! Territorial Males: The males in the Bumblebee Goby species are particularly interesting to watch. Each male establishes a territory of his own and spends most of his time chasing other fish away from it, which makes for an entertaining show! Encouraging Them to Breed When your Bumblebee Gobies are ready to breed, the males will take a prime spot in their cave and guard it against other fish. The female has a special talent for choosing these spots wisely as they know that she needs a safe place if her eggs want to survive. When you look at your tank of Bumblebee Gobies, which usually act like one happy family most of the time you might notice some warning signs: females start swelling up around the belly area while all eyes are on them! There won't be more babies anytime soon but rather just an extraordinary pregnancy where we can witness how much care is put into making sure this little egg survives inside its mother's womb until its birthday arrives. To encourage your Bumblebee Gobies to mate, just pour some fresh water into the tank. As they hear the rain on the roof of a home that is only water in this time of year - it will convince them it's finally raining and breeding season has begun! To do this, the male will escort the female to his cave or hideout where she will lay her eggs. Once they're laid, he'll fertilize them and then guard over them until they hatch after four to nine days have passed.  Telling a Bumblebee Goby's gender is easy thanks in part because there are two different ones: males tend to be brighter and more slender while females can vary depending on whether or not they're full of eggs! As breeding gets closer for both genders though, it becomes even easier with males becoming much brighter than before so as to catch a female’s attention during mating season. Fun Facts  The Bumblebee Goby is a small fish that needs some same-species friends in order to get along. They can be aggressive when they are kept with other animals, but adding the correct species of animal will make them more peaceful and less antagonistic towards others. The school pattern helps keep it happy so you don't have to deal with any trouble from this little guy! Bumblebee Gobies, not wanting to be left behind by their fishy friends with swim bladders can only scoot along the bottom of the tank. The lack of a bladder makes it so it cannot rise up as quickly and easily as other fish in water tanks do. The bumblebee goby is one of the smallest freshwater fish with adults only reaching two inches in length. These little guys are so small that they are often found living among algae, but this species can also adapt to life on land and sand bottoms or even dry surfaces like rocks! In the wild, it is often rain that encourages them to breed. They turn out in droves when water becomes less brackish but are more likely to find a safe hideout or cave with which they can lay their eggs amongst other species' nests if too many of those animals are present around the same area and time period.

  • Sale -50% Drip acclimation shrimp kit - Nano Tanks Australia Aquarium Shop

    Drip acclimation shrimp kit

What's in the kit? 1.5m of Airline 1x 25mm Airstone 1x Airline Suction 1x Steel Valve Why is Drip Acclimating shrimp before placing them in their new tank important? When adding new shrimp into your established already existing tank it is important to take the proper steps in introducing and acclimating them into their new home. The whole process is extremely stressful to the shrimp   The Drip acclimation system helps with this by getting your shrimp used to your aquarium water. Drip acclimation can help reduce shock, as the shock will affect shrimps and can lead to a shorter life expectancy, can cause death, causes stress, and chances of not eating. So acclimating shrimps by the drip method is essential to giving your shrimps a chance to survive in their new environment. Also, for any water changes in the future a drip system will assist, allowing a soft and gradual water change and not shocking the environment as especially Total Dissolved Salts (TDS) & PH must be kept within the correct water parameters and a sudden water change may disturb these parameters. Plan and prepare acclimation: Temperature Check When first arriving home check the temp in the bag vs the temperature in your tank. If it is not the same, float the shrimp in a bowl or something that won’t let water in. If using a regular bag from the fish store you can float that. Drip Acclimation Importance Once the temperature is close to the same then proceed to acclimating the shrimp. Acclimating shrimp should always be done with the drip method. The drip method can be done very simply with airline tubing, a control nozzle, a bucket/bowl, and a shrimp net. There are also products you can buy out there that are designed to do the drip method. I would stick with the basic airline tubing one we stated above. How To Drip Acclimate Empty your shrimp from their bag or bowl into the bucket, including the water from the bag. Now connect the control nozzle to one end of the tubing and place that end in your bucket and the other into your tank. Start a siphon by sucking on one end of the tubing (Make sure the control nozzle is fully open, otherwise your risk looking stupid and your shrimp may laugh at you). Watch the tubing as it fills with water, try not to get any in your mouth, and use your finger to cap the end of the tubing. Now lower the tubing into your bucket where the shrimp are and let go. Take a moment to make sure the siphon is working then adjust the nozzle to the desired flow, which I recommend to be 2-3 drops of water every second. You want to 4x the amount of water in the bucket. So 1/4 is your bag water from the LFS (Local Fish Store) and 3/4 is new water from your tank. The key after you have done the following steps is to now wait… The dreaded moment of nothingness… It should take roughly 1.5-2.5 hours for the shrimp to be ready. The drip method helps to allow the shrimp to adjust to the pH and other water parameters in your tank. This prevents them from being shocked by sudden changes and thus reduces stress… This reducing stress thing must be important, we have highlighted it several times! After You Drip Acclimate Now that your drip method is complete you should now net the shrimp into the aquarium. Leaving your tank light off for the first 24 hours (the lighting will add unneeded stress), also as much as you want to feed these little guys... don't, they will be fine for the first 24 hours, lastly NEVER PUT STORE WATER INTO YOUR TANK! Putting stored water in your tank can potentially allow all sorts of unwanted parasites, bacteria, and fungus into your tank and this is not good!!   Reference https://www.theshrimpfarm.com/posts/acclimating-shrimp/

It thus seems likely that C. rabauti occurs in both Brazil and Peru, and possibly Colombia, but the full extent of its distribution is somewhat unclear. The type locality is ‘tributary of Amazon River, 7 days by river boat from Manaus, 3°06’S, 60°00’W, Amazonas, Brazil’.Maximum Standard Length55 – 65 mm.Aquarium SizeMinimum tank dimensions of 90 ∗ 30 cm are recommended.Water Conditions Temperature: 20 – 27 °C pH: 5.5 – 7.2 Hardness: 18 – 215 ppm Reference and Image from https://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/corydoras-rabauti/

ucephalandra form as "Brownie Purple", however it shows rather brown-green to light reddish tones under water. Its species identity and exact origin are unknown to us; as well as other Bucephalandra, it occurs on rock along fast-flowing rainforest streams on Borneo. The plant is propagated in tissue culture labors (in Vitro). When grown under water, the rhizome is ascending and branched, causing a bushy growth habit. The leaves are about 2-2,5 cm long and 8-9 mm wide, spathulate, with round tip and narrowly wedge-shaped base. They are rosette-like arranged on the stem tips. The plant resembles small forms of Bucephalandra pygmaea. Bucephalandra sp. "Brownie Purple" grows very slowly but has no high demands. It looks best with moderate lighting, good CO2 and nutrient supply and water current. This plant is primarily an epiphyte for the hardscape but can also be fixed to the ground (the rhizome not buried!). It is easily propagated by cuttings of the stem tips and branches. With its bushy look and small, arching leaves, this Bucephalandra is interesting for the planting of the hardscape. It is also small enough to fit into nano aquariums.

Apistogramma cacatuoides - Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid Overview: Apistogramma cacatuoides Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid is a widespread species of cichlid that originated from the tributaries and Amazon river basin of Colombia and Tabatinga in Peru. These days, Apistogramma cacatuoides are very popular with most aquarists worldwide and commonly bred in captivity. Characteristics: The male Apistogramma cacatuoides have an average size of 8 centimeters in length, and their female counterparts are considerably smaller, with a usual size of 5 centimeters. They have an elongated body and have a relatively big mouth with thick lips. The male cockatoo dwarf cichlid has a more vibrant color than the female. They both have a dorsal and caudal fin that has a usual shade of red/orange. The female Apistogramma cacatuoides have normal dull coloration with a clear black line that runs along her flanks. Her background color is light yellow that turns brighter when mating or brood protecting. These fishes have several colorations that form naturally in the wild such as yellow, blue, and red. Feeding: Primarily, Apistogramma cacatuoides are carnivores, and in the wild, the food of their choice are benthic invertebrates. Here are the food that you could offer them Bloodworm Daphnia Artemia Flakes Tank Requirements: The cockatoo dwarf will thrive the most in a planted aquarium. The males are highly territorial, and because of that, it is ideal for keeping them in a group of three (1 male with two females) or on a harem situation (1 male with multiple females). They should have peaceful tankmates like tetras and must be kept on a tank with a capacity of at least 20 gallons. Branches and wood roots are a great addition to your tank since they can provide a space for your fish to hide and play. You can also add some soft and sandy subtrate to achieve a more natural appearance. Water Parameters Temperature: 22 – 29 °C PH level: 5.0 - 6.0 Hardiness: 0 – 268 ppm, depending on the origin There is some South American dwarf cichlid that can tolerate alkaline water. Breeding: Apistogramma cacatuoides lay their eggs on caves, crevices, under a leaf or cavities among the decors. Females are responsible for taking care of the eggs while the male ones guard the territory. Monitor the fish once in a while since the females have a tendency of becoming hyper-aggressive. In that situation, the males should be transferred to a separate tank.

Bichirs are fish from the Polypteridae family, and they're a sister group of ray-finned fishes. They have developed similar characteristics like two functional lungs, as well as Ampullae of Lorenzini - organs that can sense electricity or electroreceptors. It is worth noting that there are about 12 species in this genus recognized as Bichirs all living in freshwater systems found only in Africa's tropics. These large and aggressive animals need tanks with sufficient space to accommodate them; it is recommended for inexperienced aquarists because they require special attention due to their carnivorous diet and tank conditions (elements which may not be easy to fulfill). The specimens you encounter available on the market are caught mostly by fishing boats instead of being commercial bred (not many breeders exist yet).

    JBL ProScan

Water analysis using your smartphone - the new generationNote: The test strips are only intended for one measurement each. A repeated scan of the strip leads to different values, since the strip goes on reacting indefinitely.During the analyses "Aquarium Freshwater" and "Water" the current CO2 content in the water is calculated as an additional bonus. Depending on the analysis results in the sections “Aquarium Freshwater” and “Garden Pond” individualised recommendations and hints are given as to which JBL products can help to set the ideal/optimal water values. How accurate is this measurement method?Since smartphones provide an automatic white balance, the colour reading is more accurate than if we compare colours with our eyes! If the test is performed correctly, the result is absolutely reliable. With the nitrite result, experience shows that an additional drop test measurement (with JBL PROAQUATEST NO2 Nitrite) is a good idea if the JBL ProScan result does NOT show 0, as this value needs to be 100% reliable (nitrite is fatally toxic for fish from 0.4 mg/l).Possible errors during use:When removing the test strip from the water, do not shake it vertically, as the wet colours will then run into the other colour fields. It needs to be drained off HORIZONALLY and carefully. Without dripping off, the drops on the colour fields reflect the light too strongly and lead to inaccurate results. Photographing the test strip on the colour chart should ideally be done in daylight. But even more important is that the incidence of light is uniform and does not show partial shadows and partial sunlight. If this were the case, the colours on the colour chart would be illuminated differently.
