Aqua Natural Galaxy Aquarium Sand 4.5kg **BAG DAMAGED AND REPAIRED**

Quick Facts

  • Brand: Aqua Natural
  • Product: Galaxy Aquarium Sand
  • Pack size: 4.5kg
  • Supplier code: SAND007
  • Material: Natural quartz sand
  • Appearance: Dark sand with a sparkling finish underwater
  • Water chemistry: Inert, pH neutral
  • Preparation: Triple washed and kiln dried; rinse before use
  • Uses: Aquarium and terrarium substrate

Is This for You?

A good choice if: you want a dark natural-looking substrate to contrast with plants, rocks and wood, or you prefer decorative quartz sand rather than a nutrient-rich aquasoil.

Consider something else if: you need a substrate that provides nutrients to plant roots on its own, or one designed specifically to lower aquarium pH.

Why Choose Galaxy Sand?

Its dark colour and fine sparkling appearance create a distinctive aquascaping base without artificial colouring. The natural quartz is inert, so it is intended to remain neutral rather than deliberately alter water chemistry.

Key Benefits

  • Dark, sparkling appearance under aquarium light
  • Natural colour without artificial dyes
  • Triple washed and kiln dried by the manufacturer
  • Useful as a decorative substrate or a contrasting area in an aquascape
  • Can be used in aquarium or terrarium layouts

Specifications

  • Product name: Aqua Natural Galaxy Aquarium Sand
  • Bag weight: 4.5kg
  • Material: Natural quartz
  • Manufacturer-stated properties: Inert, pH neutral, triple washed, kiln dried
  • SKU: SAND007

What's Included?

One 4.5kg bag of Aqua Natural Galaxy Aquarium Sand. Decorative rocks, plants and other aquarium accessories are not included.

Setup & Use

  1. Plan the desired substrate depth and layout before opening the bag.
  2. Although the sand is pre-washed, rinse it with clean water before adding it to the aquarium to remove residual dust.
  3. Spread the sand evenly or shape it to suit your aquascape.
  4. Add aquarium water slowly over a plate or similar surface to minimise substrate disturbance.
  5. Check that filtration is suitable for your chosen sand layout and that loose sand is not being drawn into moving pump parts.

Maintenance

During water changes, gently remove debris from the surface without digging deeply into the sand. Avoid drawing large amounts of sand into a gravel vacuum. Stir or maintain exposed areas appropriately for your aquarium and livestock, and monitor water quality as you would with any substrate.

Pairs Perfectly With

Natural driftwood, aquarium rocks, easy-care aquarium plants, root fertiliser for root-feeding plants and an appropriate aquarium maintenance siphon.

NTA Insight:
Dark sand can make light-coloured rocks, green plants and colourful fish more noticeable. If you're creating a planted layout, remember that this is decorative, inert sand—not a complete nutrient-rich plant soil. Root-feeding plants may need root tabs or another suitable fertiliser strategy.

Before You Buy

  • Packaging condition: The bag has been damaged and repaired. Review the product photos and packaging condition before purchasing.
  • This is a 4.5kg heavy item; check delivery charges at checkout.
  • One bag does not correspond to a fixed aquarium size. The amount you need depends on your tank's footprint and intended depth.
  • Rinse before use even though the product is triple washed.
  • For planted aquariums, plan plant nutrition separately from this inert substrate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Galaxy Sand change my aquarium's pH?
It is sold as an inert, pH-neutral quartz sand and is not intended to raise or lower pH. Continue testing your aquarium water normally.

Do I need to wash it first?
Yes. It is triple washed during production, but a final rinse before aquarium use helps remove any dust from handling and transport.

Can I grow aquarium plants in it?
Yes, it can be used in planted layouts, but it does not replace a nutrient-rich aquasoil. Plants that feed heavily through their roots may need root fertiliser.

How many bags do I need?
That depends on the aquarium's base dimensions and desired depth. Measure the tank footprint before choosing a quantity.

    Live Arrival & Ordering FAQ

Why do livestock prices sometimes change?

Unlike manufactured products, fish and shrimp continue to grow and develop over time. Their value changes as they increase in size, develop colour, or become breeding pairs.

Our prices are based on the current size, quality and availability of each specimen. While pricing often remains stable for around 3–4 months, it may be updated at any time to reflect these changes.

We always aim to offer healthy, high-quality livestock at fair and competitive prices.

Do you offer a live arrival guarantee?

Yes. All livestock is covered by our Live Arrival Guarantee.

In the rare event of DOA, please contact us promptly with clear photos of the livestock in the original unopened bag.

Please review our full DOA and store policies before purchase.

Can you ship to all states in Australia?

No. Due to state restrictions, we cannot ship livestock or live plants to WA and TAS.

What should I check before ordering?

Before placing an order, make sure:

    • Your tank is fully cycled and stable
    • Your aquarium has enough space for the species
    • Your current livestock are compatible in temperament, size, and requirements
    • Your water parameters, habitat, and temperature suit the species
    • You are not adding too many fish at once
What should I expect when my fish arrives?

It is normal for fish, shrimp, or snails to look pale, stressed, or less active after shipping.

This is temporary. Most livestock will settle and regain colour within a few days.

How long does it take for fish to settle in?

Most livestock will take 3–7 days to fully adjust to their new environment.

Should I feed my fish immediately after arrival?

No. We recommend waiting 24 hours before feeding to allow them to settle.

If you already have fish in your tank, feeding them before introducing new arrivals can help reduce stress.

Why do fish sometimes struggle after being added to a tank?

In most cases, issues are caused by tank conditions, not shipping.

    • Uncycled or unstable tanks
    • Poor water parameters
    • Overstocking
    • Unsuitable tank mates
What is Nano Tanks Australia’s main tip for new livestock?

Most livestock losses happen in immature or unstable tanks, not during shipping.

If your setup is not fully established, the risk to new arrivals is significantly higher.

Not sure if this fish is right for your setup?

If you are unsure whether this species suits your setup, contact us before ordering and we’ll help point you in the right direction.
