  • Duckweed (Lemna disperma) Starter Pack - Nano Tanks Australia Aquarium Shop

    Duckweed (Lemna disperma) Starter Pack

What is Duckweed (Lemna disperma)? Overview Duckweed Lemna disperma is an oval or sometimes round herb that is endemic to Austalia. It has an average size of 1-4 mm long with red and green body coloration that grows 3 to 5 veins. It is known to be one of Earth's most miniature flowering plants. Lemna diaspora tends to form a thick green mat that slowly drifts on the water surface. The plants primarily reproduce vegetatively, with two daughter plants budging off from the adult plant. This type of growth allows new water to be colonized very quickly. Duckweeds sexually multiply themselves by flowering and producing seeds under appropriate water conditions. Duckweeds spread quickly and produce a lot of new offshoots. Therefore, dense populations are beneficial to aquatic species. Herbivore fishes would benefit the most Scientists have recently recognized duckweeds' rapid growth rate, and the plants are now used for bioremediation of waterways with high levels of nitrogen and phosphorus that come from agricultural runoff.

  • Easy - Life Catappa X 1lt - Nano Tanks Australia Aquarium Shop

    Easy-Life Catappa X 1lt

Catappa leaves are added to aquarium water because of the healing effect they have on fish and shrimps. Catappa-X is the effective, fluid variant of the leaves for aquariums. The leaves of the Catappa tree release healing substances when they are immersed in water. The disadvantage of doing so is that, in time, they decompose, which results in the release of organic compounds. This has a number of unpleasant side effects: it turns the water brown and the released organic compounds contaminate the water. Catappa-X is the answer to these problems. It does not discolour nor contaminate the water and it lowers the bacterial count, which greatly reduces the chance of disease. Catappa-X allows fish and shrimps to flourish and have more vibrant colours. Product benefits of fluid Catappa-X Fish and shrimps with more vibrant colours Improves the general health of the living creatures Prevents diseases Does not turn the water brown No extra organic contamination

  • Java Fern Bunch Small on pots - Nano Tanks Australia Aquarium Shop

    Java Fern Bunch Small

    14 in stock

JAVA FERN: THE BEST PLANT FOR YOUR PLANTED AQUARIUM Java ferns (microsorum pteropus) are perfect for aquariums. They're small, easy to grow, and don't need a lot of light to survive. Ask us for varieties we have available. For example, there are needle leaf varieties that require bright lights, as well as more traditional 'jungle' leaves such as the Narrow Leaf, Lance Leaf, and Windelov – their many varieties to suit your needs inside your aquarium. Your fish will appreciate the natural hiding spots provided by Java Fern so they can get away from time to time and feel safe and secure when they want it. Identification If you want a true aquatic plant that can grow when submerged in water or even partially out, then the Java fern is perfect for your tank. Our diverse line of beautiful and delicate-looking Java plants are perfect for people who prefer an aesthetic look inside their home aqua garden without crazy maintenance requirements. When you require a go-to plant that looks great in almost any aquascapes, go with Java Ferns (from Nano Tanks Australia with our aquascaping expertise, of course!). The narrow-leaf Java fern generally boasts long, skinny leaves, with the plant growing to a height of 10-12 inches (25-30 cm). Java Fern is perfect for those who have limited space or are trying to create an artificial jungle feel in their aquarium. The plants need bright light, but indirect (not right under the light), so they can grow properly. Keep in mind the sun has a much more potent energy than your tiny aquarium lights, so aquarium keepers can tend to underestimate the wattage and spectrum required. Saying that, in nature Aquatic Java Fern tends to never receive direct light in the jungle river. So although the Java Fern will be fine with low light in the tank, its growth rate will not impress you. What You Should Know about Java Fern It's probably better than any other plant that would grow inside an aquatic environment for this reason - its fronds are big enough for fish to swim through them without getting stuck between leaves. A striking addition to any freshwater planted aquarium, perfect if you have cichlids or South American fish. Fortunately, it's also relatively easy for plant-eating goldfish and other tank mates to leave it alone because of its tough rhizomes! Java Fern does well in water with pH levels between 6-7.5, as long as the alkalinity stays below eight dKH (aka carbonate hardness). If you see black spots (or brown spots) in your plant's leaves, don't worry - they do that. Java ferns have veins running through them, and sometimes new bumps will pop up on the leaf from which a new shoot emerges. Planting and Replanting Java Fern in the Aquarium Java ferns grow beautifully with other live plants since they are so robust, but they also make a great centrepiece for the aquarium when planted alone. Alternatively, you can attach java fern to aquarium decorations (like rock or driftwood) to create an elegant look that will not overwhelm your fish tank with too much greenery! Java Fern is a hardy plant that can live in any tank size, making it perfect for apartment dwellers who don't have room for large aquariums! If the water stays clean (and you're not adding liquid fertiliser), this resilient Fern's growth will remain consistent without any problems. The Fern prefers water with soft-to-moderate temperatures of 22 degrees Celsius. • Seachem Prime 50ml - Nano Tanks Australia Aquarium Shop

    Seachem Prime 50ml

    15 in stock

Prime is the complete and concentrated conditioner for both fresh and salt water. Prime removes chlorine, chloramine and ammonia. Prime converts ammonia into a safe, non-toxic form that is readily removed by the tank’s biofilter. Prime may be used during tank cycling to alleviate ammonia/nitrite toxicity. Prime detoxifies nitrite and nitrate, allowing the biofilter to more efficiently remove them. It will also detoxify any heavy metals found in the tap water at typical concentration levels. Prime also promotes the production and regeneration of the natural slime coat. Prime is non-acidic and will not impact pH. Prime will not overactivate skimmers. Use at start-up and whenever adding or replacing water. WHY IT'S DIFFERENT Nearly all companies manufacture a product that removes chlorine. None of those, however, can compare in quality, concentration, or effectiveness to Seachem’s flagship product: Prime. Prime is the second most concentrated dechlorinator on the market after Seachem Aquavitro Alpha™. A single 100ml bottle will treat 1000 US gallons of tap water. Prime will remove both chlorine and chloramines from municipal water supplies. Prime also contains a binder which renders ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate non-toxic. It is very important to understand how those two functions work together. All dechlorinators operate through a chemical process known as reduction. In this process, toxic dissolved chlorine gas (Cl2) is converted into non-toxic chloride ions (Cl-). The reduction process also breaks the bonds between chlorine and nitrogen atoms in the chloramine molecule (NH2Cl), freeing the chlorine atoms and replacing them with hydrogen (H) to create ammonia (NH3). Typically, dechlorinators stop there, leaving an aquarium full of toxic ammonia! Seachem takes the necessary next step by including an ammonia binder to detoxify the ammonia produced in the reduction process. Be very careful when purchasing water conditioners. If your municipality includes chloramines in the water supplies, a standard sodium thiosulfate dechlorinator is not enough. Prime promotes the natural production and restoration of the slime coat rather than relying on artificial or non-native slime compounds. A further bonus for the reef hobbyist - Prime will not overactivate protein skimmers. DIRECTIONS Use 1 capful (5ml) for each 200L (50 gallons) of new water. This removes approximately 1mg/L ammonia, 4mg/L chloramine, or 5mg/L chlorine. For smaller doses, please note each cap thread is approx. 1ml. May be added to aquarium directly, but better if added to new water first. If adding directly to aquarium, base dose on aquarium volume. Sulfur odor is normal. For exceptionally high chloramine concentrations, a double dose may be used safely. To detoxify nitrite in an emergency, up to 5 times normal dose may be used. If temperature is > 30°C (86°F) and chlorine or ammonia levels are low, use a half dose. 50ml

  • Seachem Stabilty 50ml - Nano Tanks Australia Aquarium Shop

    Seachem Stabilty 50ml

    15 in stock

Stability will rapidly and safely establish the aquarium biofilter in freshwater and marine systems, thereby preventing the #1 cause of fish death: "new tank syndrome". Stability is formulated specifically for the aquarium and contains a synergistic blend of aerobic, anaerobic, and facultative bacteria which facilitate the breakdown of waste organics, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Unlike competing products, the bacteria employed by Stability are non-sulfur fixing and will not produce toxic hydrogen sulfide. Stability is completely harmless to all aquatic organisms as well as aquatic plants, thus there is no danger of over use. Stability is the culmination of nearly a decade of research and development and represents the current state of the art in natural biological management. WHY IT'S DIFFERENT The bacteria used in competing products are inherently unstable. The conditions necessary for their growth and development fall into a very narrow range of temperatures, pH, organic loads, etc. When any of these parameters are not strictly within the proper range, the bacterial culture quickly crashes and dies. Stability does not contain any of the aforementioned bacteria. The bacteria strains in Stability have been in development for over a decade. The necessary conditions for growth of our bacterial strains encompass a very broad range. When other bacteria begin to die off (usually from high organic loads caused by the undetected death of an organism), Stability simply works harder and grows faster! The strains function in fresh or saltwater. Stability contains both nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria, a blend found in no other product. Additionally, Stability contains facultative bacterial strains which are able to adapt to either aerobic or anaerobic conditions. The bacteria in Stability are non-sulfur fixing, another innovation in the industry. Most other bacterial supplements will form toxic hydrogen sulfide under the proper conditions. Stability will not, ever. DIRECTIONS Use 1 capful (5ml) for each 40L (10 gallons) on the first day with a new aquarium. Then use 1 capful for each 80L (20 gallons) daily for 7 days. Fish and other aquatic species may be introduced at any time as long as dosage is maintained for 7 days. For optimum biofilter performance use 1 capful for each 40L (10 gallons) once a month or with each water change and whenever introducing new fish or whenever medicating an aquarium. 50ml
