  • Crystal Red Shrimps CRS - Nano Tanks Australia Aquarium Shop

    Crystal Red Shrimps CRS

Crystal Red shrimp & water quality Crystal Red shrimp have more demands when it comes to water values than many other dwarf shrimp. They are a little more fragile, not in the least due to extensive selective breeding, so skipping water changes is out of the question if you want to keep them alive and healthy. Like all shrimp and fish, Crystal Red shrimp should never be introduced into a non cycled aquarium, as they are extremely sensitive to ammonia and nitrite. They don't cope well with high nitrate values either, so keep up with your water changes and perform water tests frequently to make sure the water values are still where they're supposed to be. Apart from being in the right range, water values and temperature should be stable at all times, as sudden fluctuations can quickly prove fatal. Like their Bee shrimp ancestors, Crystal Red shrimp do best in relatively soft and slightly acidic water. They don't appreciate very warm water! pH: 5.8-7.4 Temperature: 62-76 °F (16.5-24.5 °C) gH: 4-6 kH: 0-4 TDS (Total Dissolved Solids): 100-200 Crystal Red shrimp tank mates Like all dwarf shrimp, Crystal Reds are quite vulnerable and shouldn't be combined with any but the most peaceful tank mates. Most shrimp keepers actually choose to set up a Crystal Red-only tank, especially for the higher and more expensive grades, but you could add other compatible shrimp species or harmless tank mates like snails. Crystal Red shrimp diet Crystal Red shrimp diet is similar to that of most dwarf shrimp. They are omnivores that naturally spend most of their time foraging and eating anything they can find. In the aquarium, they'll feed on algae and aufwuchs; because an aquarium environment is too clean to contain enough food to sustain them you'll have to supply additional options regularly. You can feed your Crystal Reds once a day, though some variation in feeding frequency is a good idea. Because they are omnivores they will accept a wide range of food: try offering a high quality shrimp food as a staple and adding some variation with blanched vegetables and frozen foods like bloodworms. Important! As discussed earlier, Crystal Red shrimp are very sensitive. Never offer more than they can consume in a few hours and remove any uneaten foods timely to prevent problems with water values. Breeding Crystal Red shrimp Breeding is what it's all about for most Crystal Red shrimp keepers: producing high grade shrimp can be very rewarding and some even make a little money off selling their home bred Crystal Reds. As long as water parameters are where they're supposed to be at and all other care requirements are being met, Crystal Red shrimp are not difficult to breed at all. Females will quickly start carrying eggs, which hatch after around 30 days to reveal tiny versions of their parents. These tiny shrimp lets don't need extra care, though some shrimp keepers choose to feed powdered baby shrimp foods. Once the shrimp let has grown a little you can determine their grade and pattern and decide what you want to do with them. If you're unsure whether a Crystal Red shrimp is male or female, compare its size to the other shrimp. Females will be larger than males. Their belly section will also be larger and more curved in order to protect their eggs while they are developing. Reference: https://www.theshrimpfarm.com/posts/crystal-red-shrimp-care/

  • Dragon Wood - Nano Tanks Australia Aquarium Shop

    Dragon Wood

Dragon Wood has been a recent sensation in the world of Aquascaping. We are honoured to be one of the first in Australia to have received this wood. The structure of the wood is similar to Dragon Stone, However it is a wood and it is an amazing wood to say the least. The Intricate look of the wood makes any aquascaping tanks a sight to behold. Due to the look and feel it is also a heavy sinking wood and will have no issues on sinking into your tank. The wood doesn't expel much tannins and it can be used for a variety of applications. This is the best wood for setting up a shrimp tank, as the woods natural honeycomb feature provides many hides for shrimp and places to attack epiphytes and mosses to. Whether you are looking to add shrimps, tetras, danios or livebearers this piece of wood is for you. Also it is easy for Corydoras and Plecos (However Plecos may nibble on the wood). • Sale -50% Drip acclimation shrimp kit - Nano Tanks Australia Aquarium Shop

    Drip acclimation shrimp kit

    8 in stock

What's in the kit? 1.5m of Airline 1x 25mm Airstone 1x Airline Suction 1x Steel Valve Why is Drip Acclimating shrimp before placing them in their new tank important? When adding new shrimp into your established already existing tank it is important to take the proper steps in introducing and acclimating them into their new home. The whole process is extremely stressful to the shrimp   The Drip acclimation system helps with this by getting your shrimp used to your aquarium water. Drip acclimation can help reduce shock, as the shock will affect shrimps and can lead to a shorter life expectancy, can cause death, causes stress, and chances of not eating. So acclimating shrimps by the drip method is essential to giving your shrimps a chance to survive in their new environment. Also, for any water changes in the future a drip system will assist, allowing a soft and gradual water change and not shocking the environment as especially Total Dissolved Salts (TDS) & PH must be kept within the correct water parameters and a sudden water change may disturb these parameters. Plan and prepare acclimation: Temperature Check When first arriving home check the temp in the bag vs the temperature in your tank. If it is not the same, float the shrimp in a bowl or something that won’t let water in. If using a regular bag from the fish store you can float that. Drip Acclimation Importance Once the temperature is close to the same then proceed to acclimating the shrimp. Acclimating shrimp should always be done with the drip method. The drip method can be done very simply with airline tubing, a control nozzle, a bucket/bowl, and a shrimp net. There are also products you can buy out there that are designed to do the drip method. I would stick with the basic airline tubing one we stated above. How To Drip Acclimate Empty your shrimp from their bag or bowl into the bucket, including the water from the bag. Now connect the control nozzle to one end of the tubing and place that end in your bucket and the other into your tank. Start a siphon by sucking on one end of the tubing (Make sure the control nozzle is fully open, otherwise your risk looking stupid and your shrimp may laugh at you). Watch the tubing as it fills with water, try not to get any in your mouth, and use your finger to cap the end of the tubing. Now lower the tubing into your bucket where the shrimp are and let go. Take a moment to make sure the siphon is working then adjust the nozzle to the desired flow, which I recommend to be 2-3 drops of water every second. You want to 4x the amount of water in the bucket. So 1/4 is your bag water from the LFS (Local Fish Store) and 3/4 is new water from your tank. The key after you have done the following steps is to now wait… The dreaded moment of nothingness… It should take roughly 1.5-2.5 hours for the shrimp to be ready. The drip method helps to allow the shrimp to adjust to the pH and other water parameters in your tank. This prevents them from being shocked by sudden changes and thus reduces stress… This reducing stress thing must be important, we have highlighted it several times! After You Drip Acclimate Now that your drip method is complete you should now net the shrimp into the aquarium. Leaving your tank light off for the first 24 hours (the lighting will add unneeded stress), also as much as you want to feed these little guys... don't, they will be fine for the first 24 hours, lastly NEVER PUT STORE WATER INTO YOUR TANK! Putting stored water in your tank can potentially allow all sorts of unwanted parasites, bacteria, and fungus into your tank and this is not good!!   Reference https://www.theshrimpfarm.com/posts/acclimating-shrimp/

  • Duckweed (Lemna disperma) Starter Pack - Nano Tanks Australia Aquarium Shop

    Duckweed (Lemna disperma) Starter Pack

What is Duckweed (Lemna disperma)? Overview Duckweed Lemna disperma is an oval or sometimes round herb that is endemic to Austalia. It has an average size of 1-4 mm long with red and green body coloration that grows 3 to 5 veins. It is known to be one of Earth's most miniature flowering plants. Lemna diaspora tends to form a thick green mat that slowly drifts on the water surface. The plants primarily reproduce vegetatively, with two daughter plants budging off from the adult plant. This type of growth allows new water to be colonized very quickly. Duckweeds sexually multiply themselves by flowering and producing seeds under appropriate water conditions. Duckweeds spread quickly and produce a lot of new offshoots. Therefore, dense populations are beneficial to aquatic species. Herbivore fishes would benefit the most Scientists have recently recognized duckweeds' rapid growth rate, and the plants are now used for bioremediation of waterways with high levels of nitrogen and phosphorus that come from agricultural runoff.

    Dwarf Chain Loaches Sidthimunki 8-10cm

    3 in stock

BEST IN GROUPS OF 3 Scientific name: Ambastaia sidthimunki (Kottelat, 2012)Common name: Dwarf Chain Loach, Dwarf Loach, Dwarf Botia, Chipmunk Botia, “Sid”.Synonyms: Botia sidthimunki (Klausewitz, 1959),Yasuhikotakia sidthimunki (Kottelat, 2004)Distribution: Chao Phraya and Mekong basins – Cambodia, Laos, Thailand.Sexual Dimorphism: Mature females likely to have a rounder abdominal area.Maximum size: 6cm (2.5 inches)Similar to: Juveniles of Ambastaia nigrolineata. Care: The Dwarf Chain Loach is an excellent peaceful choice for the mature community aquarium. These fish thrive in large shoals, and 5 really is considered the absolute minumum number to keep together. The aquarium should have a fine soft sandy substrate in order to protect the fish’s delicate sensory barbel area, and should be furnished with bogwood, rocky caves and aquatic plants. Excellent water quality with a moderate amount of flow should be provided. In nature A. sidthimunki is found in a variety of habitats, some of which are flowing waters, others standing areas of water in flooded regions. Feeding: Easy to feed – will accept most small foods offered. Sinking catfish pellets, micropellets, flake, algae wafers, and small-sized frozen foods such as Daphnia, cyclops, baby brineshrimp and mosquito larvae are taken with much enthusiasm. Water parameters: pH: 6.0 -7.5. Hardness: Soft and slightly acidic is best. Max dh: 12. Temperature: 75ºF to 82ºF (24-28°C) Breeding: This species is spawned on a large scale via hormone treatment, details of which appear to be a highly guarded trade secret. This is to help take pressure off of the already steep decline in wild stocks. A number of aquarists have reported signs of probable pre-spawning behaviour in their established large shoals. During the Winter of 2007, Mark Duffill discovered that his A. sidthimunki group had bred and a number of young had survived the attentions of the adult fish. • Easy - Life Catappa X 1lt - Nano Tanks Australia Aquarium Shop

    Easy-Life Catappa X 1lt

Catappa leaves are added to aquarium water because of the healing effect they have on fish and shrimps. Catappa-X is the effective, fluid variant of the leaves for aquariums. The leaves of the Catappa tree release healing substances when they are immersed in water. The disadvantage of doing so is that, in time, they decompose, which results in the release of organic compounds. This has a number of unpleasant side effects: it turns the water brown and the released organic compounds contaminate the water. Catappa-X is the answer to these problems. It does not discolour nor contaminate the water and it lowers the bacterial count, which greatly reduces the chance of disease. Catappa-X allows fish and shrimps to flourish and have more vibrant colours.
