Shipping Live Fish

 

We go above and beyond to ensure your live fish arrive in tip-top shape. Here’s how we do it:

Premium Packing For Safe Travels

  • We use Industrial Grade Oxygen for a stress-free journey.
  • Seachem Prime is added to the water to keep it clean and safe.
  • Each fish bag is double bagged (at least) to ensure a secure and leak-proof travel.
  • An insulated Styrofoam box protects your fish from temperature fluctuations over the colder months. (We are trialing an innovative way of shipping live fish)
  • We include heat packs during cooler months to maintain a cosy and constant temperature.

Our Shipping Schedule

  • Regular Dispatch Days: We send out orders on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, aiming for the shortest travel time and avoiding delays over the weekend.
  • Blackout Periods: Please note, we don’t ship live fish during the chilly 1st week of July and from the 24th of December to the 2nd of January to avoid holiday delays.

Health & Safety Checks

The well-being of your fish is our top priority. Here’s what we do before they are sent to you:

  • Thorough Heath Checks: Each fish undergoes a detailed health inspection on the day of dispatch. We never ship from tanks undergoing treatment.
  • Low Risk, High Care: Our meticulous process leads to less than 2% change of fish death upon arrival.
  • Communication Is Key: In the rare event your order is delayed for health-related reasons, we’ll keep you informed every step of the way.

We have a diverse range of shipping options for your convenience. 

 

Postal Shipping For Dry Goods

We ship dry goods via Australia Post. You can expect to receive your order in 1-5 business days.

Larger Bulkier orders we usually use Toll IPEC.

Postal Shipping For Live Plants

We ship live plants via Australia Post Express Post Services. You can expect to receive your order in 1-2 business days. Orders can be shipped to your home, work, or other physical address (excluding PO Boxes).

Live Fish Orders Via Courier

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT SEND LIVE STOCK TO WA, NT OR TAS.

In shipping your live fish orders to you, we ONLY SHIP VIA TOLL PRIORITY (MyTeamGE) OR Startrack PREMIUM

Please note that this directive is imposed by RSPCA and Australia Post.

Please note that a surcharge of up to $30 may apply for combined shipments greater then 5kg. (roughly 6 bags of fish) or delivery location

In shipping your live invertebrates orders to you, we will ship via Australia Post Express Post

 

Understanding Shipping Costs

  • Free Shipping: Available on dry goods when sent via Australia Post Regular Mail Service. You can expect to receive your order in 7-14 days.
  • Additional Charges: Apply for bulky and fragile items like aquariums (fish tanks), gravel, sand, and driftwood. We tailor these charges to ensure safe transport and are charged separately.

Special Shipping Situations

We can tailor our shipping solutions to your unique needs.

Airport To Airport Services

Airport to airport services are available for orders totalling over $1000. This is ideal for significant shipments requiring special handling. Please contact us for more information.

Order Combining

You may combine your order with a previous order if the previous FULL ORDER has not been processed yet. If we have partially processed your previous order, this option is not available, and you will need to pay the shipping fees for the new order.

We do however split orders up in case for those ordering livestock and substrate and aquascaping material (eg woods and rocks)

Special Postal Charges For Certain States

Additional Charges For Specific Locations

  • Norther Territory (outside Darwin): An extra charge of $25 applies, reflecting the additional cost imposed by our courier services.
  • Western Australia: WE DO NOT SEND LIVE FISH OR INVERTABRATES TO WA
  • Tasmania: Customers need to handle the necessary paperwork for importing fish from the mainland. Associated costs are paid as required.
  • Rural Areas: Shipments via Toll Priority or next-day delivery service may incur additional charges, which will be advised upon order receipt.

Restrictions On Specific Items

  • To Western Australia: We do not send LIVE FISH OR Invertebrates or Non-Tissue Culture Plants.
  • To Tasmania: Livestock shipments are only possible with the correct permits.

Order Tracking & Delivery Times

Track your order’s journey via the Australia Post or Toll website. We’ll email you the tracking number once your order is dispatched.

Delivery times vary based on shipping method and destination, please check the Shipping Options & Costs for more detail. If you’re in a rural location, please advise us. We may recommend a more suitable shipping method to ensure timely delivery.

Customer Responsibilities

By placing an order on Nano Tanks Australia, you understand that we cannot be held responsible for delays once the package is with the courier. If there are delays, please contact the courier directly, advising them of the sensitive nature of your shipment (e.g., live fish).

Casualty Reporting

In the unfortunate event of casualties upon arrival, promptly contact us with photographic evidence for potential store credit or replacement, as per our terms.

Lost Packages

If your package is lost, please contact the courier service. We provide evidence of dispatch and address accuracy but cannot offer refunds or credits or credits for lost packages.

To help prevent your package from getting lost, please ensure you give us the correct address with information as to where you would like the fish delivery left if you are not home. Ideally, a place that is out of the sun.

If we or the courier company cannot contact you within a reasonable time frame due to an incorrect delivery address, we will instruct the shipment to be returned to us. The cost of the shipment AND the cost of the return shipment will be incurred by you.

Post-Delivery Care & Policies

Shipping, while carefully managed, can be a stressful experience for live fish and plants. Upon arrival, please acclimate your new arrivals gently to their new environment, following standard practices as if you’ve bought them from a local store.

Please note, while we strive for the best, the nature of shipping live fish and plants is delicate. We’re unable to offer credits or refunds for issues that arise more than 48 hours after delivery. Your understanding and proper care are crucial in helping them adapt successfully to their new home.

(Please note that we do not now use Methylene Blue for our shipments.)
