Fluval Stratum is the best substrate for stimulating the growth of aquarium plants in freshwater fish tanks. Plant roots easily penetrate and spread in the substrate, allowing plants to obtain readily available nutrients that will make them flourish.
The substrate’s light, non-compacintg, porous structure is also highly beneficial to notifying bacteria, which rapidly colonises the porous surface, forming a biological filter and providing great water quality.
Fluval Stratum’s inherent properties will promote a neutral to very weak acidic pH, ideal for the majority of plant species and species of tropical fish or shrimp normally kept the in planted aquarium.
This highly attractive substrate will not discolor water, helping control organic discoloration usually present when natural driftwood is used.
Fluval Stratum also provides newborn shrimp with an ideal refuge, allowing them to escape predation until they are large enough to emerge.
Gently rinse Fluval Stratum in a large colander without agitating the substrate to remove fine dust particles. Place the contents required into the empty fish tank. Place a dish or something similar on top of Fluval Stratum when filling the aquarium / changing water to minimise disruption of the substrate. It may take several hours before aquarium water becomes clear, this temporary turbidity is safe for shrimp and fish.
Do not stir the stratum. Do not mix with other gravels. Handle the granules with care when changing water.
When performing partial water changes avoid excessive turbulence of this substrate with a gravel washer. This substrate is not intended for use with fish that would actively dig and move it about the aquarium, not for use with fish such as many African and Central American cichlids or goldfish and koi. This product is not for use in marine or brackish water aquariums.
